Proposed whitepaper / Unpublished outline
From findings
to decisions.
A working structure for turning a technical observation into a decision someone can own, review and revisit.
A finding describes an observation. This proposed outline asks what else a team needs before choosing an action. Use it as a discussion aid, not a mandatory process.
01 / Evidence
What do we actually know?
Describe the affected asset, observed behaviour, assessment scope and evidence date. Separate what was demonstrated from what is inferred or still untested.
Proposed outputA finding statement with reviewable evidence references and explicit unknowns.
02 / Context
Why does it matter here?
Connect the finding to a service, owner and relevant access path. Identify which assumptions about exposure and mitigating controls still need checking.
Proposed outputA context paragraph, with the information that could change the priority.
03 / Options
What choices are on the table?
Compare remediation, temporary mitigation, further investigation and any exception that would need approval. Make the dependencies, trade-offs and remaining uncertainty visible.
Proposed outputA decision, its rationale and the alternatives considered.
04 / Owner
Who takes the next step?
Separate the person implementing a change from the person authorised to approve the decision. Agree a checkpoint and record the blockers that could prevent progress.
Proposed outputA next action, an accountable owner and an agreed review date.
05 / Closure
What would count as done?
Define the validation scope and evidence needed for a closure decision. Name the reviewer, note what remains uncertain and describe what would trigger another review.
Proposed outputA closure record with evidence, limitations and a reopening trigger.
A practical starting point
One decision.
A record worth keeping.
